Cultivo y memoria (Crop and memory)
With the collaboration of Trevor Nicholson, Head Gardner at Harewood House.
Site-specific installation with live plants, ceramic sculptures and arboreal fragments fallen in the woods of Harewood. The work is rooted in an ancient type of cultivation, this word carries a double meaning that adds layers to the work as cultivation can be about culture and knowledge and about the act of sowing crops which in the case of this installation is indeed linked to ancestral knowledge from South America.
Memory is also in place as it relates both to the 3 sisters crop system as a memory that persists, as the practice is still current, and also the memory of that specific soil inside the walled garden at Harewood where so many plants have lived throughout the years, giving sustenance to the humans inhabitants of the place.
